04 // Mother & Daughter
Science has already proved to the world that many characteristics are passed down from parents to children, sometimes skipping a generation and manifesting themselves later on, appearing to have no direct link to the parents.
That said, I will never truly know where my artistic inclinations came from, but one thing I am totally certain about: I have passed them down to both of my daughters.
These images illustrate my youngest daughter—our percussionist—painting 'The High Priestess', my rough sketch of our illustrious poet, Luís Vaz de Camões, and my first attempt at painting on tiles (88/89).
Diverse artistic expressions have the fantastic power of restoring balance and harmony to the body, mind, and soul!
Maintaining this line of thought, the project 'Harmony in Tiles' is the beautiful result of seeking exactly that—harmony!
It combines a percussionist's unique vision (my daughter Márcia) of rhythm, melody, and colours, translating it into a condensed, single piece of art: Harmony in Tiles.
This 10-track album is a homage to our city, Ovar, and its cultural heritage—the Cidade Museu do Azulejo. You can experience the full journey now on YouTube.
