11 // Distance Reiki: Effective Or Not?

Thoughts and opinions about the efficacy of distance attunements and treatments diverge significantly within the global Reiki community. Some believe that distance Reiki attunements are completely valid, acceptable, and should be officially recognized. Others, however, hold diametrically opposed views.

My standpoint on this is as follows:

In my country, if someone wants to practice Reiki professionally, certification is paramount. Proper training guarantees the safety of both therapists and recipients. It ensures practitioners inform clients and maintain clear boundaries regarding what to expect—and what not to expect—from a Reiki treatment.

From a philosophical perspective, I agree that attunements should ideally be done in person. However, distance attunements do work, following the same logic that makes distance Reiki treatments highly efficient. The primary tool is "Universal Energy," which is not bound by time and space.

That being said, every system has its own procedures and methods. Traditional Reiki training follows a formal, established structure that must be respected if you wish to belong to that specific system and honour that specific lineage.

Why, though?

Our human body is an intricate power grid driven by diverse energy systems, including physical, chemical, and vital energies. During in-person attunements and treatments, the recipient is directly exposed to the Reiki therapist's aura. The energies of both practitioner and recipient interact and intertwine, triggering the entire healing process. This is precisely why a practitioner's lineage and background should be carefully vetted by anyone seeking a healing session.

Ultimately, Reiki is a way of living through the five principles, fostering a peaceful, healthy life by applying everything learned throughout the attunements.

Love is shared at a distance, but still, there is always the need to be in close proximity to interact personally with our loved ones!
